Caring for your teeth

The best way to care for your teeth involves consistent daily habits and regular professional checkups. Begin with brushing your teeth twice a day using a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Brush for at least two minutes, making sure to clean all surfaces of the teeth, including along the gum line. Floss daily to remove plaque and food particles from between the teeth where your toothbrush can’t reach. Using an antimicrobial or fluoride mouthwash can also help reduce bacteria and strengthen enamel.

A healthy diet plays a key role in oral health. Limit sugary snacks and drinks, which can lead to cavities. Instead, choose foods rich in calcium, fiber, and vitamins, such as leafy greens, dairy products, and crunchy fruits and vegetables.

Visit your dentist regularly—ideally every six months—for professional cleanings and early detection of any issues. Your dentist may recommend sealants or fluoride treatments for added protection, especially for children or those prone to decay.

Avoid smoking and tobacco products, as they can cause gum disease, tooth loss, and oral cancer. Staying hydrated and chewing sugar-free gum can also help maintain saliva flow, which protects your teeth. With mindful care, your smile can stay healthy for life.
