Bite Split Therapy

Dental splint therapy offers an effective, conservative approach for managing bite problems and jaw muscle pain. A dental splint, often custom-made to fit comfortably over the teeth, helps stabilize the bite and reduce excessive strain on the jaw joints and surrounding muscles. By creating a more balanced contact between the upper and lower teeth, splints can decrease uneven forces that contribute to muscle fatigue, headaches, and facial pain.

One of the primary benefits of splint therapy is muscle relaxation. When the bite is stabilized, overworked jaw muscles are able to rest and recover, reducing chronic tension and discomfort. This is especially helpful for patients who clench or grind their teeth, often unknowingly, during sleep or stressful situations. By limiting harmful tooth contact, splints can also protect teeth from wear, fractures, and sensitivity.

Splint therapy may further support the temporomandibular joints (TMJs) by guiding the jaw into a more comfortable, repeatable position. This can lessen joint inflammation, clicking, or restricted movement, allowing for improved function and comfort during daily activities such as chewing and speaking.

Importantly, dental splints are noninvasive and reversible, making them an excellent first-line treatment. When combined with proper diagnosis and follow-up care, splint therapy can significantly improve comfort, protect oral structures, and restore harmony to the bite and jaw system.
